A friend of mine recently confided in me (he knows I am a lawyer) that he got a speeding ticket and wanted to just send in his fine and cost payment to be done with it.  “I don’t want to take time off to go to court, is that OK?”  “No, it’s not OK at all,” I told him, “If you do that your insurance rates are going to skyrocket and your license may be temporarily suspended.” He was understandable shocked, because although he was speeding, it wasn’t a speed most people would think is excessive.  I explained that he could hire a lawyer to handle the ticket and get it reduced so that his insurance would not increase and his license would not be suspended.  (While no lawyer can guarantee results, traffic attorneys can predict what is likely to happen, and let you know if they run into an unexpected problem negotiating your ticket.)  He followed my advice, and saved himself loads of money and aggravation.  Everyone needs a good lawyer now and then!
